Buy Prozac online
Why buy Prozac online?
Commonly doctors in the UK prescribe Prozac (fluoxetine) and their patients purchase the medication from local pharmacies.
However, for various reasons the option of obtaining a prescription is not open to everyone.
Those excluded from this process, due to money or proximity to a doctor or pharmacy, can buy Prozac online in the UK
As a bonus, those who buy Prozac online get it for much lower costs than charged at UK pharmacies – even after shipping.
Buy Prozac online without a prescription
In most countries including the EU and the UK, you can only legally purchase Prozac with a prescription from a qualified medical professional.
Health and safety regulations stipulate an online consultation prior to buying Prozac online.
An online consultation, if it meets approval, has the same weight as a prescription.
A qualified medical professional, usually a licensed doctor, reviews the consultation and approve the order being sent based on the answers received.
Approval of an online consultation by a doctor has the same legal basis as a prescription issued by GP in a clinic.
The online pharmacy we recommend (see link below) incorporates this consultation process during checkout.
If your order of Prozac is not approved, you are not charged.
The consultation process is provided free of charge whether you are successful or not.
Which generic Prozac is best?
There is no difference between generic Prozac made by generic medication manufacturers and with brand name Prozac made by Eli Lilly pharmaceuticals.
The only difference is in appearance and price.
Generic Prozac capsules may be of a slightly different colour or shape that brand name Prozac. The active ingredients however are identical.
Generic Prozac is a small fraction of the price of brand name Prozac. Patent costs of brand name Prozac can be an additional 500% (or more) to the actual costs of the drug.

What is the correct fluoxetine (Prozac) dosage?
First of all, take the dosage your doctor prescribed you. If you don’t have a prescription read below for the correct Prozac dosage for your condition.
It may be different from the usual dosage, but everyone’s different and different health conditions, circumstances.
Other medications, and of course the nature of your symptoms, affect what’s a suitable dose for you.
Take it at the same time every day, with or without food (though if it upsets your stomach at all, try taking it with food).
Secondly, fluoxetine comes as tablets, capsules, a liquid, which are taken daily or extended-release capsules which are generally taken weekly.
If you’re taking delayed-release tablets, then it’s important that you swallow it whole and don’t crush or chew it.
Thirdly, if you want to stop taking it, talk to your doctor about how to do this.
It’s not a good idea to stop taking Prozac suddenly. You might get unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. These include:
- mood changes,
- numbness or tingling in the hands or feet,
- trouble sleeping.
Fourthly, don’t take more than you’re prescribed as taking too much fluoxetine can increase your serotonin levels too much, which can give you serotonin syndrome. For more details see Prozac side effects
Doses can vary a lot, depending on how the individual responds to the drug.
If you are unable to get instructions from a qualified medical professional then it is best to start with a low dose. Only increase dosage in a slow and controlled manner.
Prozac starting dose for depression
For major depressive disorder a starting dose of 20mg each morning. For many sufferers, this would be sufficient to control their depression.
Note that doctors may increase dosage over time for some people but that it should not be more than 80mg per day.
Take doses over 20mg all at once in the morning – or split between morning and noon.
Prozac dosage for OCD
It’s a similar case for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) – 20mg each morning to start with, going up to possibly 60mg if needed.
Prozac dosage for anxiety
For panic disorder, 10mg each morning is the usual starting dose, going up to 20mg after a week.
Prozac dosgae for bulimia
For bulimia nervosa, 60mg per day may be needed (again, taken in the morning).
All these dosages are for adults.
More details are here: drugs.com/dosage/prozac-capsules
But please keep in mind that this is just general information and that these dosages may not be suitable for you, specifically.
Always follow the recommendations of your doctor on how much and how often to take Prozac.
Also note that it’s common for it to take up to four weeks, or longer, for the full effects of fluoxetine to be felt.
Best time of day to take Prozac dosage
It’s recommended say that you should take Prozac in the morning because it can cause insomnia. If you find it makes you sleepy however (this happens too, though less often), then you could ask your doctor if you can take it at bedtime instead.
When does Prozac start to work?
It can take up to a month for you to start noticing the effects of fluoxetine (Prozac) and for your symptoms to improve.
When does Prozac wear off? i.e how long does fluoxetine stay in your system?
Fluoxetine stays in your system longer than other similar antidepressants and can stay in your body for as long as three weeks after you stop taking it.
However, since it affects other brain chemicals too (e.g., oxytocin), these can take longer to return to their previous levels.
What if I miss a dose of Prozac?
If it’s getting close to the time for your next dose of Prozac by the time you realise you’ve missed it, then don’t take it and just take your next dose as usual.
Otherwise, take the dose you missed as soon as you realise. Don’t double up on doses though!
There’s also a weekly version of Prozac. If you miss taking one of these, then take it as soon as you remember, and then take your next dose seven days later.
Unless it’s almost time for your next dose, in which case, just leave it and wait till it’s time for your next one.
Again, don’t take extra to make up for missing a dose.
What to do when Prozac no longer works?
Some people just don’t respond much to Prozac. Other antidepressants may work better for you so discuss this with your doctor.
You could also try herbal treatments like St John’s Wort. To read more about that see Prozac comparisons below.
Regular exercise is also proven to help alleviate depression, especially if it’s not too severe.
There are various therapies that could be really beneficial, including cognitive behavioural therapy.

Prozac comparison with other treatments for depression
This post looks at the differences between Prozac (fluoxetine) and other similar treatments for depression and anxiety.
Is Prozac the same or similar to:
- Adderall, Celexa (citalopram),
- Cymbalta (duloxetine),
- Effexor (venlafaxine),
- Lexapro (escitalopram),
- Paxil (paroxetine)
- Valium (diazepam),
- Wellbutrin (buproprion),
- Xanax (alprazolam),
- Zoloft (sertraline) ?
Prozac, fluoxetine, Lovan and Sarafem are the same.
Prozac, Lovan and Sarafem are brand names for fluoxetine.
Sarafem is the brand name which targets the treatment of PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).
Some of the drugs listed here are similar to fluoxetine (Prozac) in that they are also selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) so work the same way in the brain.
- citalopram (Celexa, Cipramil),
- escitalopram (Lexapro, Cipralex),
- paroxetine (Paxil, Paxil CR, Pexeva, Seroxat) and
- sertraline (Zoloft, Lustral).
Others are newer antidepressants. Some are serotonin and noradrenaline (norepinephrine) reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs).
These increase not just serotonin levels but also noradrenaline levels in the brain and include duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve) and venlafaxine (Effexor).
Thus they tend to increase alertness and energy as well as positive mood. Wellbutrin (buproprion) is a noradrenaline and dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) so increases noradrenaline and dopamine levels.
Fluoxetine is not like Adderall, which is an amphetamine-based medication for ADHD (attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder), though Adderall is like speed.
Fluoxetine is sometimes prescribed to treat ADHD though, though it is not licensed for this use.
Valium (diazepam) and Xanax (alprazolam) are benzodiazepine drugs which are mainly used for treating various kinds of anxiety and panic disorder.
Which is better, Prozac (fluoxetine) versus
- Celexa, Cipramil, (citalopram),
- Cipralex (escitalopram),
- Cymbalta (duloxetine),
- Effexor (venlafaxine),
- Lexapro (escitalopram),
- Paxil (paroxetine),
- Pristiq (desvenlaxafine),
- St John’s Wort,
- Wellbutrin (buproprion),
- Xanax (alprazolam),
- Zoloft (sertraline)?
Prozac compared to other SSRI medications
SSRIs including Prozac are usually the first types of antidepressants to be prescribed for depression as they generally have fewer side effects and an overdose can be less serious.
However, they’re not necessarily more effective.
The American Psychiatric Association states that “effectiveness of antidepressants is generally comparable between and within classes of medications, including SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, MAO inhibitors, and other antidepressants […] For most patients, an SSRI, SNRI, mirtazapine, or bupropion is considered optimal (e.g., bupropion, mirtazapine, trazodone).” See: drugs.com/monograph/fluoxetine-hydrochloride for more information.
Different people react differently to different medications, so there’s no general answer to which antidepressant is better than another. It depends.
Since they have different contraindications, some might be more or less suitable for you, depending on your specific health conditions.
Prozac side effects are another consideration. While Prozac generally produces less side effects than other types of antidepressant, it may have side effects for you that you cannot tolerate.
For example, sexual dysfunction is some of the most common side effects of fluoxetine including decreased sex drive, difficulty orgasming, vaginal dryness or impotence.
Wellbutrin (buproprion) is a different antidepressant and does not have sexual dysfunctional side effects. Doctors occasionally prescribe Wellbutrin along with Prozac to counteract these undeirable side effects.
There’s a good article on SSRI antidepressants and their pros and cons here: webmd.com/depression/ssris-myths-and-facts-about-antidepressants
St John’s Wort is a yellow flowering plant that has similar effects in the brain to SSRI medicines like Prozac. It may also have other effects.
There’s mixed evidence as to how effective St John’s Wort is.
Whatever you do, don’t take it at the same time as taking an antidepressant medication as the two may interact with negative effects on you.
Prozac as an anxiety relief medication
For anxiety, other SSRI’s are used for treating it, including Celexa and Cipramil (citalopram) and Lexapro and Cipralex (escitalporam) – though fluoxetine (Prozac) isn’t.
SNRIs, like Effexor (venlafaxine) and Cymbalta (duloxetine) meet approval for some types of anxiety relief.
Xanax (alprazolam) is a completely different drug (a benzodiazepine). Xanax is an effective treatment for anxiety – though has a greater risk of addiction.
Consequently some doctors prescribe SSRIs in preference to Xanax for anxiety relief.
Prozac compared to other antidepressants pain relief
For pain relief, other antidepressants are better than fluoxetine, including SNRIs such as Cymbalta (duloxetine) and tricyclic antidepressants.
If you are treating bulimia, fluoxetine or other SSRIs is a better choice due to less adverse effects.
